This is an English translation. The Japanese text (レンタカー貸渡約款) is the official version, and it prevails if there is any difference (Article 45).
Chapter 1 General Provisions
Article 1 (Application of these Terms)
The Company shall rent out rental vehicles (hereinafter referred to as "the Rental Car") to the Renter in accordance with these Terms and the Detailed Rules to these Terms established under Article 40 (hereinafter collectively referred to as "these Terms, etc."), and the Renter shall rent the Rental Car after understanding and accepting these Terms, etc. Where the Renter designates a Driver other than the Renter under Article 8, paragraph 3, the Renter shall inform that Driver of the parts of these Terms, etc. that relate to the Driver and shall ensure that the Driver complies with them. Matters not provided for in these Terms, etc. shall be governed by laws and regulations or by general custom.
2. The Company may agree to special agreements to the extent that they do not conflict with the purpose of these Terms, etc., laws and regulations, administrative notices or general custom. Where a special agreement has been made, that special agreement shall take precedence over these Terms.
Chapter 2 Reservations
Article 2 (Applying for a Reservation)
When renting the Rental Car, the Renter may, after agreeing to these Terms and the rate table, etc. established separately, apply for a reservation by the method established separately, specifying in advance the vehicle class, the date and time of the start of the rental, the place of rental, the rental period, the place of return, the Driver, whether accessories such as child seats are required, and other rental conditions (hereinafter referred to as "rental conditions").
2. When the Company receives an application for a reservation from the Renter, the Company shall, as a rule, accept the reservation within the range of the Rental Cars it owns, except where it carries out rental through an agent under Article 36, paragraph 1 (including where it rents out, as a replacement vehicle, a vehicle obtained through rental through an agent under that paragraph). In this case, the Renter shall pay the reservation deposit established separately, unless the Company specifically permits otherwise.
Article 3 (Changing a Reservation)
When the Renter wishes to change the rental conditions in paragraph 1 of the preceding Article, the Renter must obtain the Company's consent in advance.
Article 4 (Cancellation of Reservations, etc.)
The Renter may cancel a reservation by the method established separately.
2. If, for the Renter's own reasons, the Renter has not started the procedures for concluding a rental car rental agreement (hereinafter referred to as "the Rental Agreement") one hour or more after the reserved rental start time, the reservation shall be deemed to have been cancelled.
3. In the cases of the preceding two paragraphs, the Renter shall pay the Company a cancellation fee as established separately, and when the cancellation fee has been paid, the Company shall return the reservation deposit already received to the Renter.
4. Where a reservation is cancelled, or the Rental Agreement is not concluded, for the Company's reasons, the Company shall return the reservation deposit already received and shall also pay a penalty as established separately.
5. Where the Rental Agreement is not concluded due to an accident, theft, failure to return, a recall, a natural disaster or any other reason for which neither the Renter nor the Company is responsible, the reservation shall be deemed to have been cancelled. In this case, the Company shall return the reservation deposit already received.
Article 5 (Substitute Rental Car)
Where the Company is unable to rent out a Rental Car of the vehicle class reserved by the Renter, the Company may offer to rent out a Rental Car of a vehicle class different from the reservation (hereinafter referred to as "substitute rental car").
2. Where the Renter accepts the offer in the preceding paragraph, the Company shall rent out the substitute rental car under the same rental conditions as at the time of reservation, except for the vehicle class. If the rental charges for the substitute rental car are higher than the rental charges for the reserved vehicle class, the rental charges for the reserved vehicle class shall apply; if they are lower than the rental charges for the reserved vehicle class, the rental charges for the vehicle class of the substitute rental car shall apply.
3. The Renter may refuse the offer of rental of a substitute rental car in paragraph 1 and cancel the reservation.
4. In the case of the preceding paragraph, where the reason the rental in paragraph 1 cannot be made is attributable to the Company, the reservation shall be treated as cancelled under Article 4, paragraph 4, and the Company shall return the reservation deposit already received and shall also pay a penalty as established separately.
5. In the case of paragraph 3, where the reason the rental in paragraph 1 cannot be made is not attributable to the Company, the reservation shall be treated as cancelled under Article 4, paragraph 5, and the Company shall return the reservation deposit already received.
Article 6 (Exemption from Liability)
The Company and the Renter shall make no claims against each other in relation to a reservation being cancelled or the Rental Agreement not being concluded, except for the measures provided for in Article 4 and Article 5.
Article 7 (Reservation Agency Services)
The Renter may apply for a reservation through a travel agency, partner company, etc. that handles reservations on behalf of the Company (hereinafter referred to as "agency").
2. A Renter who has applied for a reservation to an agency under the preceding paragraph may apply to change or cancel the reservation only to that agency.

An international driving permit or a foreign driving licence provided for in Article 107-2 of the Road Traffic Act shall be treated in the same way as a driving licence.
If an Individual Number Card with licence information recorded is presented and the specified licence information of that person cannot be confirmed, the rental will be refused.

The same applies where the Company has received a Parking Violation Payment under Paragraph 7.

Article 5, paragraph 2 shall apply mutatis mutandis to the conditions for providing the substitute rental car.
4. If the Renter does not accept the substitute rental car referred to in the preceding paragraph, the Company shall refund the rental charges already received in full. The same shall apply where the Company is unable to provide a substitute rental car.
5. If the Breakdown, etc. arises from a cause that cannot be attributed to the Renter, the Driver or the Company, the Company shall refund to the Renter the balance remaining after deducting, from the rental charges already received, the rental charges corresponding to the period from the rental to the termination of the Rental Agreement.
6. Except for the measures set out in this Article, the Renter may not make any claim against the Company, other than as set out in this Article, for damage arising from being unable to use the Rental Car. Where the Renter is liable for damages under the preceding paragraph, the Renter shall, as set out in the rate table, compensate for the damage, or pay compensation for loss of business, arising from the Company being unable to use the Rental Car due to an accident, theft, breakdown, soiling or odour of the Rental Car, etc.
3. If, in connection with the use of the rented Rental Car (including a Rental Car rented through an agent under Article 36), the Renter or the Driver causes damage to a third party or to the Company through the wilful misconduct or negligence of the Renter or the Driver, the Renter or the Driver shall compensate for that damage.
